The date draws closer to Aug. 25, 2008, the legal beginning of school throughout the state of Texas.  Not sure if you remember this, but there were attempts in the Legislature back in 2005 to change the date of the start of school in Texas and we were told it was because of Six Flags Over Texas and them wanting to get another two or three weeks of revenue in before the kids went back to school.  Of course that was washed over pretty well with the whole argument that it costs money to cool schools in August in Texas and they'd save money by running AC in Texas in … wait for it … in June.  Maybe it's not 100-plus every day in June, but it's not too far off.  In other words, the argument doesn't hold much water.  And so now everyone, thanks to Six Flags or the Legislature or the terrible heat of August, which admittedly is hot, but so is June… the kids go to school beginning the last Monday of the month.

If you haven't jumped over to our son Ricky's blog about Brett Favre going from the Green Bay Packers to the New York Jets, please do so and leave him a comment.

Another one of the boys wants his own blog now, too, so we'll see about that later in the day.

This all leads well into the major project I'm working on.

We've got a busy morning today.  One of the boys did an all-nighter skating, another has gymnastics practice at 8 a.m. and then Kari and I have a meeting today at 10:30 a.m. so we'll be running at full tilt.  Sure will be nice to get a nap today.

As I write, I'm sitting in my chair on the back porch.  It's only 79 this morning and I'm sitting here under the fans, almost a little chilled.  I'm just amazed at the beauty of the flowers we've planted this year in the garden area on the far side of the pool.  Just a heavenly smorgasbord of color and a few oddities we didn't expect.  It's been so darn hot lately, I really haven't had much time out here, and being on the go with work hasn't helped that either.  Nonetheless, it's beautiful out here this morning.

And as usual, Molly's followed me outside to keep me company.  She's such a wonderful dog.  I've never had a dog or any pet for that matter with such a kindred spirit.

Okay, time to get up and get moving.  Much to do this morning.
