On Monday night after work, I relayed a conversation I'd had with a couple of my former staff members from Dallas ISD. They'd been notified earlier that day that they'd been laid off but would get a paycheck on Oct. 15 and that would be it. Naturally, I was heartbroken for them and resolved to do what I could to help them and others as much as I could.
I also went a step further to offer an email address, theyRIFed@me.com, in case anyone who does/did get RIFed by the financial exigency situation in the district wanted my help to circulate their resume to others.
Well today I got an email from a North Dallas Mom who is looking for household management while she and her husband work during the day. Here is what she wrote me:
I’m a reader of the Dallas Morning News Education blog and found you from their site. This might be completely off-base but since you are connected to many people who may be laid off, I thought that I would give it a chance. I am looking for a professional nanny/household manager. We’re a two career family and we need someone who can love, care for, and encourage the development of our children – and also keep our household running on a daily basis. It’s not an easy job but we pay well and provide up to a month’s vacation and other perks. This position is completely above board – we pay employer taxes, give performance reviews, etc.
This is the posting and I encourage any of you who are looking for a possible career change with some stability to take a look, this might just be the thing for you.
