Kari and I have been walking from the Jefferson Memorial to the Washington Monument since before sundown. On the way over we happened upon a poor gal who had just fallen off her bike into a DC street. We ran to the scene to help as one set of blue lights was coming on. I directed traffic at the scene until one of the officers said he was taking over the scene. An officer finally said it was okay to leave.
The girl's head was bloody and she needed an ambulance. Then.
We were almost to the field at te Washington Monument when the DC Fire Department got to where we'd walked to in the ten minutes following. They turned right and stopped to talk to a stopped police car. I hollered to the driver of the fire truck that the cyclist was down. He responded, "Is that what it is?" I told them they were going the wrong way. They made a loop and a minute or two later they got to the scene we'd left before. Amazing. That poor girl was in pain on a public street and it took forever to get her help.
I'm heartbroken. Don't fall off your bike in DC. Or worse.
