As we follow the path of Gustav in shear agony over the memories of Katrina, I can't but help but hear Randy Newman's song, Louisiana, and it's chorus:

Louisiana, Louisiana
They're tyrin' to wash us away
They're tryin' to wash us away
Louisiana, Louisiana
They're tryin' to wash us away
They're tryin' to wash us away

I read the reports through Twitter, etc. yesterday quoting government officials saying they're "more prepared" this time around.  That scares me in the "the Titanic was an unsinkable ship," kind of way.  Gustav now is a Cat 3 storm.  But it's favorable for strengthening.  I don't know how you get ready to literally deal with catastrophic damage.

Mandatory evacuations beginning in NOLA in two hours.  Please say a prayer this Sunday morning for all who are going to be affected, for all who will be fleeing this storm, for those who will be providing assistance, and in thanks for those who will welcome those fleeing into their homes.
