The comments about PETA's recommendations for Ben & Jerry's to use human breast milk instead of cow milk have been hysterical.   Please share more:

UPDATE:  For whatever reason, Wesley added the following comment the other day and Typepad says it's in the system and on the site, yet neither of us can find it.  So, I'm posting it here in this update:

"Um, mother's can only make breast milk for so long…encouraging single mothers to sell breast milk also encourages them to continue to reproduce over and over and over. Is that responsible?"

I would rather a human woman choose to have a baby than a cow be force impregnated. I would rather a human woman choose to sell her breast milk than a cow have it taken from her via machines that damage her udders and cause her great pain. It should be (and for a human woman, is) a personal choice. And mothers can produce breast milk for as long as they are breastfeeding.

"Cows make milk REGARDLESS of if they are pregnant or not."

No, like women, cows need to have been pregnant to produce milk. In the dairy industry, a cow is force impregnated and has her calf taken from her often when he is less than a day old. He should be the one getting that milk, but instead he is put in a crate so small he can't even turn around in it, and raised for veal.

"Plus you can't get any kind of freaky weird disease from COW MILK like you could some woman's breast milk."

Cow milk has been linked to allergies, diabetes, constipation, ear infections, heart disease, breast cancer, prostate cancer, autism, and obesity, just to name a few. Do tell, what "kind of freaky weird disease" can you get from "some woman's" breast milk?

"So Wesley, why don't you find a way to produce breast milk from men so that you can produce all of the milk for this ice cream."

So "Mrs. Tantrum" (no surprise you chose to remain anonymous… have some guts and sign your real name), why don't you find a way to be a bit more polite and a little less ignorant?

Um,
mother's can only make breast milk for so long…encouraging single
mothers to sell breast milk also encourages them to continue to
reproduce over and over and over. Is that responsible? Cows make milk
REGARDLESS of if they are pregnant or not. Plus you can't get any kind
of freaky weird disease from COW MILK like you could some woman's
breast milk. So Wesley, why don't you find a way to produce breast milk
from men so that you can produce all of the milk for this ice cream.

I've
always supported the use of breast milk rather than cow milk. Consuming
any dairy past the age of breastfeeding is odd, but drinking the milk
of another species is odd on a whole new level! Plus the women have
laws in place that protect them from mistreatment; this would be a
great way for single moms to make extra money.

I fail to understand why you would drink milk from the breast of a
cow, but would not drink the milk of your own species (which to me
makes much more sense).

I, too, will pass on the breast milk ice cream. I think PETA has a case of the crazies.

@daddyclaxton I'm all for breastfeeding – infants.  I will stick with my cow's milk ice cream, thankyouverymuch.  PETA people are insane.
