Last week's column from Roland S. Martin about how the media missed the Edwards deal got him low marks from me, however, I must say, he's redeemed himself this week with a posting about being a godfather/uncle to his nieces and getting involved in their education. Congrats. We need more examples of parents taking their roles as educational leaders. It's the start of a new school year, moms and dads. Here's another chance for you to enter your kid's world of education more than just the first day of school, parent teacher conferences, and the PTA program where your kid is going to sing. Please, your kids, their teachers and principals all are counting on you to do your part, too. That includes making sure the kids are doing their homework, reading nightly, and getting to bed at a decent hour so they're not moping in class each morning.
