This is absolutely the stupidest thing I've ever heard of–a church using a gun give away in its marketing plan for a weekend gathering for teens.

I've said, that after living in Alabama for years, we/they like to look down on Mississippi.  Well, Mississippi can look down on Oklahoma.  The people are nice, but it's got to be the most backward place of these United States.

Here, read for yourself, courtesy of KOCO in OKC, and CNN:

An Oklahoma church canceled a controversial gun giveaway for teenagers at a weekend youth conference.Windsor
Hills Baptist had planned to give away a semiautomatic assault rifle
until one of the event's organizers was unable to attend. The
church’s youth pastor, Bob Ross, said it’s a way of trying to encourage
young people to attend the event. The church expected hundreds of
teenagers from as far away as Canada.

And then in a huge, PR gaff, the minister says:

“I don’t want people thinking ‘My goodness, we’re putting a weapon in
the hand of somebody that doesn’t respect it who are then going to go
out and kill,'” said Ross. “That’s not at all what we’re trying to do.”

And having said that, that's exactly what anyone reading or seeing this story will think.  Bad move by the church. Bad move PR wise on multiple levels.

What are these people thinking?
