President Obama's Address to Students

On Sept. 8, President Obama is scheduled to speak to school children across the United States through a webcast message produced in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Education.  It is Mesquite ISD’s understanding that the President’s message will emphasize the value of education and the importance of working hard in school to succeed.

The timing of the live broadcast does not coincide with class schedules and will occur during many lunch periods.  Therefore, Mesquite ISD will post a link to the message on its district website where parents may view the video themselves.  After viewing the message online, if parents have a concern about their child watching it as part of a future classroom activity, they are encouraged to send a written statement to their school principal.

We hope parents will take this opportunity to have conversations with their children about the importance of working hard in school, setting goals and staying focused on their education.  Mesquite ISD’s FutureQuest and MyFuture initiatives encourage students to plan for study beyond high school, and parents are important partners in these efforts.
