Looks like you had my five kids in your house. I read this last night, and prayed you could turn your house around. Good luck from one daddy to another daddy

I had Mr. Bjork for fifth grade in 1977. My younger brother, I think, had Mr. Cotton for third grade sometime around 1974-5. I don't remember a Mrs. Smith nor Mrs. Hakala.

My teachers at Leo P were Mrs. Kivasto for second, Bettes for third, Stanaway for fourth, Bjork for fifth and Nesberg for sixth.

Thanks for sharing your memories. Thanks for the prayers.

Was looking up info about Leo P. McDonald elementary school that I attended from 1971 til approx 1973 and came across your blog. I moved back to the old KI in July of 2010 and have now moved from there again. I lived on that base longer than I have lived anywhere. I miss it terribly, I think because its truly the only place I ever called "home". Do you recall Mr Cotton, Mr Bjork, Mrs Smith, or the librarian Mrs Betty Hakala ?
I hope things are looking up for you. I will say a prayer for you.

Hi Donny,
I really enjoyed the post and we lived on base at the same time for awhile.

I was born at KI in 65; my family lived at the end of Fury. In 68 my dad, a B-52 tail gunner, was transferred to March AFB for a couple of years, then we moved back to KI. We lived on Savage 70 - 72 until my dad retired & that was it.

I am 46 now & trying to jar loose any memory I have of life on base at KI, some of the best years of my life. I have been back a few times but summer 2011 was special as I was privileged to bring back 2 of my 4 sisters for a few days. It was wonderful.

For what it's worth, I happened to run across an open group in Facebook called "I survived KI Sawyer AFB". You should be able to view comments & pictures if you aren't a FB user, but hopefully you are & can add to/ enjoy probably any discussion going on. I posted the survivors group in website URL field and you or others can enjoy stories of other folks that lived on base.

It would always be a pleasure to read more of your account of Air Force life on base at KI Sawyer AFB. Thanks again. Take Care.

Best regards,
Kenneth Gordon Snoddy, III

Martin, thanks for the note. I still run Aperture 3 on my 2007 MacBook Pro and its speed isn't something I'm thrilled with, but I enjoy the versatility I have with Aperture that I just don't get as excited about with Bridge.

Congrats on the decision to leave the Dark Side! I think you'll be much happier and productive over in the land of Apple.

My 2007 Mac is still working like the day I got it. (Knock on wood!) But for the moment it's everything I need. --DC

Sir, I am in the process -- or beginning -- of a painting, the substance of which I plan to be a comparison of the whole Musburger-ESPN-Herbstreit-CBS-Lundquist culture with Heckle and Jeckle, Guy Smiley, and Bert 'n' Ernie. I intend to parody the whole graphics-from-a-truck syndrome, complete with arrow-on-the-field, Home Depot Whirley-Zoom, New York Life-emblazoned-on-the-field, any and all I can get into the thing that will say what I cannot say in words. I may entitle it "Whatever Happened to Just Showing Us the Game?"

Thanks, Paul. I hope you're right. Even at this hour, my Mac Mail isn't working. Works fine on iPad and iPhone, but not my main machine.
